in.solit.us

About in.solit.us

in.solit.us is a web application, programmed in Ruby on Rails, where you can share any file you want, allowing you to limit this share to a single person, a group of people, or make it public and let everyone download it.

There is no disk usage limit set on users. However, shall a user have a very large amount of copyrighted files stored in the system, we reserve the right to politely ask to remove them.

The site was designed to work well with Safari, Firefox, Opera and the rest of the browsers that follow standards. If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, consider switching to a real browser. Safari (only for Mac) or Firefox with Google Toolbar (Windows, Mac, Linux) are examples of good, secure and free browsers. If you decide to continue using IE, do so at your own risk!

What's the IDE/whatever you use to develop in Ruby on Rails?

I use an Apple Macintosh to develop my applications (in fact, two, a PowerMac G5 and an iBook G3 -and now a MacBook Pro 15"-), running MacOS X. There, you can easily install Rails using RubyGems, since Ruby is already installed in MacOS 10.4 (gem install rails). My IDE, if you can call it that, is an extremely well done and IMHO the best text editor, called TextMate. Finally, I use CocoaMySQL to manage my database graphically. Tests are done with Safari and Firefox.

How is in.solit.us financed?

in.solit.us is (for now) solely financed by the revenues of the ads placed in the bottom of the download pages (both "normal" download and code download), above the Download button. The idea is for the ads to be as less painful as possible for everyone. That is the reason why they are only located in the download pages and not everywhere.

Are there any limits in disk usage or bandwidth?

There are no limits in disk usage or bandwidth whatsoever. Please be aware that uploading big-sized copyrighted files such as films or software is discouraged. Shall the author ask us for removal of a certain file, it will be removed automatically.

Why did you waste your time doing this?

As I was interested in learning to program in Ruby on Rails, I just thought a file sharing website like this one would be useful for me and perhaps for other people too.

I was doing ... and the application painfully crashed

I'm sorry for that. I'll try to fix it if you send me some information about that crash. Please use the contact form for that.
